The difficult conversation
What the difficult conversation requires
A difficult conversation is one where the manager has to say something the other person would rather not hear, or take on a conflict that has become deadlocked. The theory is usually familiar. The hard part is using it when the situation is uncomfortable.
Conflict management is about taking on the conflict early, separating the issue from the person and placing responsibility where it belongs. It is a skill that improves with training.

Questions and answers
What do you learn on a leadership course in difficult conversations?
Managers train taking on the conflict early, giving a difficult message clearly and kindly, placing responsibility and holding the conversation about wellbeing with each person. The conversations are practised on your own situations, so they can be used in everyday work afterwards.
Who is the leadership programme for?
The programme is for managers who know the theory and want to use it when the situation is uncomfortable. It also suits new managers who have to lead former colleagues, and leadership teams where conflicts are allowed to grow.
How does the conflict management training work?
The programme is built around the situations your managers are facing now. The difficult conversation is practised again and again until it sticks, and the sessions are spread over time so managers can try it out in everyday work in between.
Can the leadership course be held at our workplace?
Yes. Academy can teach at your workplace with your own cases, and the programme can be adapted to your leadership team. Together we agree on format and scope based on the situations your managers are facing.
What happens after the leadership course?
The programme can continue with an assistant in everyday work and a coach when needed, for example in Ajuna. That gives managers a place to prepare the next difficult conversation when it comes.
