Preparation on the phone or in the browser for the employee, preparation for the manager and a shared place for the agreements.
Who uses it?
Managers and employees, and HR, who plan the review round.
And the employee?
The preparation is voluntary and belongs to the employee. The employee chooses what to bring to the conversation.
What does it require?

How it works

From preparation to follow-up

STEP 01

The employee prepares

At their own pace, the employee puts words to the year, to what gives energy and to what should happen now.

STEP 02

The manager is prepared

The manager gets preparation built on the role, the same for every conversation, with questions that open the conversation about the next step.

STEP 03

The conversation

The employee brings what needs to be on the table, and the time goes to development, wellbeing and agreements.

STEP 04

Agreements that are followed up

MUS+ drafts the agreements. Manager and employee correct and approve the draft, so both can return to the agreements during the year.

A good MUS

What makes a development review good

A good performance review is mostly about the future: what the employee wants to develop, what it takes to thrive, and what manager and employee agree on. It helps when both have prepared, when the conversation has plenty of time, and when the agreements are concrete enough to follow up. Shorter follow-ups during the year can keep the agreements alive between the big conversations.

Questions that often lead to a good conversation:

  • What has given you energy over the past year?
  • What would you like to get better at?
  • What does it take for you to thrive in your job?
  • What can I do as your manager to support you?
  • What do we agree on, and when do we follow up?

What you get

What you get out of it

  • Conversations where both are prepared.
  • More time for development and wellbeing, and less for reconstructing the year.
  • Agreements concrete enough to follow up.
  • A review round that is easier to plan and carry out.
  • More open conversations when the preparation belongs to the employee.

A good fit

MUS+ is a good fit when

  • Your next review round is approaching.
  • Managers have many conversations and little time to prepare them.
  • Agreements from the last MUS often get left behind.
  • You want to use MUS more for development and retention.
  • You want to hold shorter follow-ups during the year.

In depth

Behind MUS+

What is MUS?

MUS stands for medarbejderudviklingssamtale, the Danish performance review. It is a planned conversation between manager and employee about wellbeing, development and tasks, usually held once a year. MUS+ is Sympact's application that prepares both and collects the agreements, so the conversation is about the next step.

How do you prepare for a performance review?

It helps to think about the year that has passed, about what has given you energy and about what you would like to develop. In MUS+ the employee prepares at their own pace on the phone or in the browser and chooses what to bring to the conversation. The manager gets their own preparation.

How often is MUS held?

How often MUS is held is agreed at each workplace, and in the public sector it is often set out in the agreements on competence development. MUS usually takes place once a year, and shorter follow-ups can keep the agreements alive. With MUS+ the agreements are kept together, so they are easy to return to and form the starting point for the next conversation.

What is a MUS system?

A MUS system or MUS software is a digital tool that helps plan, prepare and follow up on performance reviews. In MUS+ the employee and the manager each get their own preparation, and MUS+ drafts the agreements, which both approve before they are collected in one place.

What does the manager see of the employee's preparation?

What the employee chooses to bring to the conversation. The preparation belongs to the employee, and the manager's preparation builds on the role and is the same for every conversation. The confidentiality can lead to more honest conversations and more concrete agreements.

How does MUS+ help with follow-up?

MUS+ drafts the agreements, and manager and employee correct and approve the draft together. The approved agreements can be revisited at a short follow-up during the year, and they are the starting point when the next MUS is prepared.

How does MUS+ relate to APV+?

MUS+ is about the individual's development in the conversation with the manager, and APV+ gives a combined picture of the work environment. Each application has its own purpose, and data is kept separate. They can be used on their own or together in the solution Wellbeing & work environment.

How do we get started with MUS+?

After a 30-minute intro meeting, we put the review round in your calendar and choose the questions that fit your workplace. Managers get their preparation before the conversations begin.

Give the next review round time for the next step.

In a short meeting we clarify your challenges and the solutions that fit. We deliver directly to companies and public organisations, or through a partner.
